Run Mommy! Run Daddy!

So a few months ago Matt brought home 2 forms for a 5k the Optometry department was putting on for the St Louis society for the blind.  We thought it would be good motivation for us to work out so signed up for it.  We did pretty good, checked out a number of choice work out videos from the library, our favorite being "Firmer after 50".  I started riding the bike every day the weather was nice with the boys. Matt ran on the elliptical in the evenings after a long night of studying.
Fast forward 2 weeks before the race. I had a fever for almost a week and just felt horrible.  Matt was trying to be Mommy and Student and didn't have any time to work out, so basically we didn't do anything.  I started feeling better a few days before the race so we decided to go ahead and run, or walk if we needed to.  Heath was especially excited about the thought of Mommy and Daddy running in a race, and the fact that He and Houston got to come along in the stroller.

We surprised ourselves and actually did really well, we ran the race in 31 minutes all the while taking turns pushing about 70#s.   When we were about 100m from the finish line We got the boys out of the stroller to let them run "their" race. Heath had been asking to do this for days leading up to it, then when we got him out he saw all the people at the finish line cheering for him and got super shy.  He begged to be picked up so I carried him across.  Houston thought it was cool and ran holding Daddy's hand.   The race was at a really nice park about 30 minutes from our house.  After the race they had a little bbq so while we were waiting for the food we explored a bit.  Matt was especially excited about this bridge. He was pacing it off and figuring out a way to haul it if he were to try and purchase it someday.

The boys pigged out on hotdogs and chips and made faces at all Matt's classmates.

The race was a few miles from our favorite conservation area out here.  Matt had this master plan of buying Heath a fishing pole and going fishing after the race.  It turned out to be a perfect day for just that.   The conservation center has over 20 ponds you can fish in and as long as your catch meets requirements you can keep anything you catch. oh, and its all free.  Heath was in little boy heaven.  Matt  had quite a bit of fun too. (as did Houston and I!)

I LOVE how Houston is standing just like Matt and watching his every move.  So cute!

They got the line stuck and had to put a new hook on several times.  Heath was so patient. I think every little boy should fish, to learn patience.

Heath did catch one little 7inch bass.  It was too small to keep but boy was he so proud!

Houston "fished" with the fish chain. Don't worry he only rolled in once.....

After fishing we went home and EVERYONE took a couple hour nap! It was amazing, pretty much a perfect day!
