Saturday, the 8th some of my wonderful dear friends were going to throw me a baby shower. My mom was coming up for the occasion Friday night. Matt had a basket ball game that night at the stake center. It was the 2nd to last game of the year (part of a double elimination tournament and they were lined up to win it all.) and the boys had been begging to go to one of Dad's games for months, so we met my mom there and enjoyed ourselves. The boys were SO good! (I had been putting off going to a game thinking it may be murderous!) They sat watching and cheering and eating snacks the whole game. They were so excited and every time Matt got the ball or made a shot they would yell, "YAY DAD!" It was pretty cute and our ward's team won.

| Matt taking my picture mid contraction.... |
When we got home we put the boys to bed and sat up talking. Because I
was induced with both of the boys I have been a little unsure about when
contractions would warrant going into the hospital. I had been asking
my mom what she had experienced and how she knew it was time to go. At
about 11 I noticed my belly was getting really tight about every 10
minutes, but nothing was painful, around 11 it was more like every 5
minutes. Still no pain though. We kept talking and enjoying ourselves
while Matt went to bed. At about 1am I said goodnight and headed to bed
myself.

As soon as I laid down in bed I had a real contraction. Right in my lower back and plenty painful. Then 3 minutes later another one. I woke Matt and told him I thought we needed to go into the hospital. There is this story of his parents: when Anne was in labor one time She had told Darrell she thought it was time to go. It was a Sunday and he was still in his white shirt, but was unsure what to do with his tie. He took a minute trying to decide weather to wear it dangling around his neck, tie it, or leave it home altogether. If I remember right this made Anne a bit inpatient and she then knew she was really in labor.

So as soon as I told Matt to get up, he started getting dressed and asked, "Now, what should I do with my tie? Should I tie it, hang it like this, or just leave it here at home?" I guess he was just trying to see if I was really in labor, but yeah, it made me a bit angry, and then I knew it really was time to go. Now that I look back on it it's funny. : ) It worked out so perfectly, my mom stayed with the boys, we didn't have to call anyone in the middle of the night to come over. (I think that would have made my decision to actually go in a lot harder)

| Then we snuggled for another hour bc her body temp was a bit low. |
We got to the hospital at 2:00, got checked in and to a room. I was at a 4 still. The Dr on call was at the hospital across the street delivering a first time mom who had been in labor over 20 hours so they didn't want to break my water or anything to get things going until he was finished with her. : ( Seeing that this may be a while, I told them to get an epidural going and it was in by 3:30. : ) The anesthesiologist that set it was amazing. With Houston it felt like they were grinding my vertebrae away while they were putting it in. This one I hardly felt at all. By this point I was at a 6.
 |
| every now and then she'd crack an eye at me. Such a cute snuggle buddy. |
We tried to sleep a bit, but that's never possible for me. Matt snored away for a bit. About 5:30 I called the nurse in bc I was feeling a lot of pressure. Baby was right down low and I was a 9. The Dr had called and said he was going into do a c section on the lady across the street who had pushed for 3 hours and was done. (poor lady) They said they had a resident asleep down the hall they could wake if things got moving, but to try and stall for the Dr to finish. At 6 I called the nurse in again and she said I was at a 10 and ready, but put me in a couple positions to try to stall for a bit.

About 6:15 my water broke. The Dr called and said he'd finished and would be there in 7 minutes. He came in about 6:22 and asked me to give a little "practice push, not full out" to see how baby was responding. As soon as I started he said, "STOP!" and got into his gown. Then I gave one little push and she slipped right out. She came head, then hands, then shoulders, then bum. She was born at 6:28. The Dr was out of the room by 6:40. Her labor was almost double Heath & Houston's. I'm pretty sure if they would have broken my water right off she would have been born real quick.
She was so calm right from the start. She made a few loud cry noises just after being born, then was calm and quiet as could be.
She's already got Daddy's heart.
The little hat I had made for her was SO big, but we weren't really expecting her to arrive a week early and so small.
Later that evening Matt came back with the boys and my mom. My Dad had come up with my brothers as well.
Heath was SO excited and as soon as they walked in the door he jumped up onto the bed next to me and asked to hold his little sister. It was SO cute! I think she likes him too.
He jumped right into his hundreds of questions about the baby and her nose and her feet and her fingers and ears.
Our happy little family of 5 : )
(I really dislike post delivery pictures in the hospital, they pump you full of so many fluids, my face just balloons up a few hours after delivering. oh well.)
Houston wasn't so sure about things at first, but after about 5 minutes he was saying, "I want my baby"
He started doing "this little piggy" to her all on his own. It was SO cute!
"I love my baby, mommy."

We both got a LOT of rest the rest of that first day and the second. She slept so much! Every time they'd bring her in to eat it took about an hour to get her to wake up enough to latch on. So dopey.
note to self: take nail clippers or a file to the hospital next time, they don't have any there and she had some long little nails.
Big paws just like her brothers.
Her little feet are like mini-me's of Matt's. It's so cute! She can even cross her toes just like he does.
She has long skinny legs, and skis for feet just like her brothers had.
This was a very rare sight in the hospital. She hardly ever cracked those little eyes.
The last half day we were there this happened outside our window. Lets just say we were really ready to go home after a morning of saws and nail guns, and really grateful that it hadn't been going on during our whole stay.
This was our name list. It took us till the very last minute to nail it down in true "us" fashion.
We named her Hannah Jane. Hannah after Matt's little sister that didn't make it. He was named after his Uncle Matthew that died as an infant and always wanted to name our first girl Hannah. And Jane after Rebecca Jane.... and the hootie and the blow fish song called Hannah Jane. (not really, but when we put the two together Matt remembered that song.) Amelia, Lydia, and Kathena are other family names we had been considering.
SO tiny!
We made it home safe and sound. We feel so blessed to have this sweet calm little girl in our home. She had such a wonderful arrival and we're looking forward to all of our future adventures together.
